      Popcorn book to listen to while something else is going on. Enjoyable, but not memorable.

      Synopsis: Everett Hathaway is a real pill; from his pseudo-British affectation, to his ineptitude in business and his less than generous nature, he's not likable. Is it any surprise that no one is sorry when he is drowns after going kayaking on a cold and foggy night? It is a surprise, however, when a worker at a charity shop finds an index card in the pocket of his donated coat that leads her to believe that he was murdered. The Darlings, their family and friends must investigate when a young man is accused of murder.Review: As always, these books are fun to read. All the expected characters are there and in fine form. There is a huge give-away clue near the end of the book that if you're not paying attention you'll miss.

      As a long time reader of this series, Death Comes Silently was like a visit with old friends. Carolyn Hard has managed to write another strong book in a rather long series - not something a lot of authors can do without the books starting to feel stale and repetitious. I thought the plot was fresh and the red herrings excellent. Each of the main characters were true to their histories and as likeable as they've ever been (or not, as the case may be). I do find a couple of recurring characters just too stupid and overblown to be even remotely believable, but these characters don't get much page time, thank goodness. An excellent read for those that like their cozies with a bit more depth and maturity.

      I recently read that Carolyn Hart's Death on Demand series of books falls into the "cozy mystery" genre. I had never heard that before but I would say it is an apt description. I always look forward to reading another in the series. Even if one of the stories isn't a knockout it's still a pretty good read.

      When Annie's volunteer shift at local charity shop Better Tomorrow conflicts with an event at her bookstore, she asks fellow volunteer Gretchen Burkholt to swap shifts with her. Gretchen calls Annie several times during the shift since she's nervous about being alone with handyman Jeremiah, an ex-con. After the bookstore event is over, Annie heads over to Better Tomorrow to check on Gretchen, who won't have a better tomorrow because she's been murdered with the handyman's ax. Is Jeremiah as guilty as everyone assumes? Or was Gretchen killed because of something she found in the pocket of some donated clothing and described to Annie in one of her telephone calls?Although Annie takes the lead in the amateur investigation, it's a group effort involving Annie's husband, Max, her friend Henny Brawley, Annie's mother-in-law, Laurel, and local author Emma Clyde. There are multiple suspects and each clue could reasonably implicate any one of them. As usual for this series, references to other mysteries and mystery writers are sprinkled throughout the book, so it will contribute to wishlist bloat for most readers. References to now-popular TV series like Glee and House are probably a mistake that will make the book seem dated fairly quickly. I had a mixed reaction to the audio version. Some characters' voices (like Annie's) worked well, while others sounded wrong (like Max's). I don't think sequence is as important for this series as it is for some, so feel free to jump in any time!

      Who capsized and drowned disagreeable Everett? There are a lot of candidates, and Annie and Max Darling and their friends must provide the answer as the murderer is killing all witnesses. A bit too tame

      For any who like the cozy mystery genre, Ms. Hart's "Death on Demand" mystery series cannot be beat. This is the 22 book in the series, but this book can both be enjoyed by those long-term readers like me, or by someone who is new to the series. But i wil warn newbies that you will want to read the other 21 when you read this one. Annie and Max Darling are a delight-two young marrieds, both with a taste and an aptitude for solving mysteries. The setting is wonderful too. A small island off the North Caroline coast and a town full of eccentrics. In this book, a series of strange happenings soon appear to be connected. What do a man who drowned on a cold winter's night while in a kayak, a criptic card found in the dead man's old clothes, a wife's infidilety and a cold ruthless killer have in common? You'll have to read the book to find out. I love the cast of characters in this series, and I love Ms. Hart's folksy writing style.
