Ice cream heiress Whitney MacAllister has an eye for the expensive and a yen for something new and different, so when a stranger hijacks her car seconds ahead of a trio of deadly thugs, she decides being kidnapped might be interesting. Especially when Douglas Lord hints at the prize he's hunting - a set of jewels once owned by Marie Antoinette. Of course, the way her abductor fills out a pair of jeans doesn't hurt... From a pricey Manhattan high rise to the jungles of South America, it's a race against death to find a fabulous treasure before a killer finds them.Classic Roberts, this still reads well twenty-five years after its original publication date.

Heiress gets mixed up with a society burglar in a treasure hunt for jewels belonging to Marie Antonette after he attempts to steal her car. Usual love/hate story with survival in the wild and hitmen following them and attempting to kill them at every turn for the treasure map.

Whitney MacAllister is a socialite (and interior designer) is carnapped by Douglas Lord (burgular on the run) neither of them expect what happens next and it's the adventure of their lives. He has some documents that suggest he can find the location of some missing Marie Antoinette jewels. The guy he stole the papers for wants them, he doesn't think he should give them to him. It's a bit of a romp of a book, the path is pretty obvious but it's a fun ride along the way. I enjoyed the story and the characters.

I always think of this as Nora's caper book. Unfortunately, I don't think this is one of the books that's being considered as a movie. Which is just as well--they're making Lifetime movies out of them, and this would make a good mainstream movie. The bored but plucky heiress, the daring jewel thief, action, adventure, crocodiles, caves, chases, drama, an evil villain and his creepy henchmen, even a pig. Somebody should contact the producers who made The Italian Job. Seriously.

This hints at suspense, but really it's RomCom. A lot of it felt cliché.

I never could quite suspend my disbelief long enough to really root for either of the protagonists...
