About this audiobook

In Lisa Genova’s extraordinary New York Times bestselling novel, an accomplished woman slowly loses her thoughts and memories to Alzheimer’s disease—only to discover that each day brings a new way of living and loving. Now a major motion picture starring Julianne Moore, Alec Baldwin, Kate Bosworth, and Kristen Stewart!

Alice Howland, happily married with three grown children and a house on the Cape, is a celebrated Harvard professor at the height of her career when she notices a forgetfulness creeping into her life. As confusion starts to cloud her thinking and her memory begins to fail her, she receives a devastating diagnosis: early onset Alzheimer’s disease. Fiercely independent, Alice struggles to maintain her lifestyle and live in the moment, even as her sense of self is being stripped away. In turns heartbreaking, inspiring, and terrifying, Still Alice captures in remarkable detail what it’s like to literally lose your mind...

Reminiscent of A Beautiful Mind, Ordinary People, and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time, Still Alice packs a powerful emotional punch and marks the arrival of a strong new voice in fiction.

Editor's Note

An emotional debut…

Grab a tissue. This fierce, emotional debut from Genova — who holds a doctorate in neuroscience from Harvard — captures graceful bravery in the face of a devastating disease.

The story explained what was going on with someone suffering from Alzheimer's disease. It was clear and concise; very informative and a little scary about what a person goes through with this disease knowing that it could happen to you.

Engrossing and tragic story. Not the best writing, but perhaps it was just the way it was read aloud. The narrator/author sounded like she had a cold, she was nasal and you can hear her breathing every couple of words, somewhat distracting. But would still recommend if someone wanted a more personal view of Alzheimer's.

Very real characters depicted so I cared. Informative. Beautifully written. Story paced right, with a surprise or two rewarding the reader, especially towards the end. Important life questions of value and options in the face of decline raised as well. I loved it.

Lisa Genova please buy the book Cleanse to Heal to learn the true cause of Alzheimer and heal from it like many have. It’s caused by Mercury and Aluminum poisoning in the brain, both together do this but separately they cause other issues but not Alzheimer.

Lisa Genova, the author of “Still Alice,” has a Ph.D. in neuroscience and works as a columnist for the National Alzheimer’s Association. Her novel tells the story of a 50-year-old Harvard psychology professor, with a happy marriage and three grown, successful children, who is diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s disease and over the course of two years experiences serious cognitive decline. Genova made the bold decision to tell the story from Alice perspective, and while the novel is not entirely successful—in places the writing is more clinical than literary, and there are certainly moments of melodrama—overall, it’s a moving and very sad book.

The thing is that the story is beautiful, but they should have used another person to narrate, because the story is emotional while the narration was cold.

An amazing book, absolutely heart breaking. The narrator's voice is at times a little too shrill for me but perhaps the quiver in her voice lends to the desperation of the content.

I loved how the writer explains the experiences of an Alzheimer's Patient!
How they start forgetting trivial things.. Then eventually their own loved ones.
Then there comes a phase when the husbands and wives start wondering, what the purpose of their marriage was after all.. Work and supporting each other? Or staying with eachother to help and support eachother?
Alzheimer's is really a shitty disease. At one point Alice points this out the how she never would want to be on her deathbed looking at the faces she doesn't recognize anymore, the faces that are her children and husband! Watching them say goodbye while She doesn't even know they are and why they're crying at all.
Damn. I really am thinking if I'll ever make a good choice if it comes to having a good wife who's gonna be there for me when I need her the most or when I am in a similar disease!
