About this audiobook
Hoping to escape unwanted celebrity in the aftermath of a notorious incident, Ramsey Hunt settles in the Rockies, determined to bury himself in the safety of a solitary existence. But his isolation is shattered when he stumbles upon a small girl unconscious in the high-altitude forest. When strangers pursue Ramsey to his private meadow in an attempt to kill him and the girl, he's mystified that anyone would wish her harm. And the child can't shed any light on the subject: she's mute.
Molly Santera, the girl's mother, catches up with Ramsey and her daughter, mistaking her daughter's savior for a kidnapper. But soon Ramsey's real role becomes clear. With the strangers in pursuit, the trio flees to Chicago for sanctuary. Even there, however, the child's enemies prove as relentless as their motives are baffling.
With an unexpected assist from FBI agents Dillon Savich and Lacey Sherlock (last seen in The Maze), Molly and Ramsey begin to unravel the clues, and in the process they make an astonishing discovery as to the true nature of the target.

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Wasn't sure whether to rate 2 or 3. This book felt like I was listening to a soap opera (narrator didn't help either). Started off well, but turned into a family romance with Judge Hunt, Molly & her little girl, with quite a few traumas for the little girl who took them surprisingly well! Also 1 or 2 twists in the mix, but was practically just waiting for it to end.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Judge Ramsey Hunt is at his cabin in the woods when he discovers a little girl who’s been abused. But who’s after her and why? Eventually, Molly, her mother finds them… but so do the bad guys. This one was a game of cat and mouse as the trio was on the run the majority of the book, escaping one bad situation after the other. Then they have to figure out who is after them, and why. Quite a page-turner! These first few books feature different characters, as opposed to later books in the series, where Savich and Sherlock become the main players, but they still make a brief appearance in this one. An exciting read!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This being the third book in this series that I've read Catherine Coulter did not disappoint, good plot, fast moving. I'm looking forward to the next in this series :)
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I love Catherine Coulter books, but...... this one I did not like! How many traumas can a little six year old child reasonably endure? 2 kidnappings, her father being blown up in front of her, savior being shot 3 times, etc., and she is just a normal little girl? It just felt like a loose, wet knot that needed to squeezed and tightened. There were good parts, but it does not equal up to other books I have read
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5The story dragged forever. It dragged on way to long! The romance just kinda happened. But my main pet peeve was when the author swallowed audibly constantly!! Omg so annoying!
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5the title doesn't load fully,the big twist remains a secret
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5This book was horrible. I have no idea how she's a best seller all the time. Bleh!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5District Court Judge Ramsey Hunt has retreated to a cabin high in the Rockies to get away from the publicity and paparazzi who have haunted him since he took down killers in his courtroom when they attacked. Things are quiet until he finds an unconscious young girl in the woods near his cabin. She has been assaulted and raped and is mute. Ramsey is determined to protect her, which includes keeping her away from cops and reporters. Over the course of a few days, they bond and she begins to trust him.But the bad guys are still on her trail. When they come pretending to be drunk, Ramsey defeats them, chases them off with gunshot wounds, and is shot in the thigh himself. While he is still recovering, they are found by the little girl's mother Molly Santera who first believes that Ramsey was the kidnapper. The two adults are determined to protect young Emma even if it means taking her to Molly's crime lord father. But the attacks keep coming and Molly's ex-husband rock star Louey Santera is a victim when a car meant for Ramsey, Molly and Emma explodes. The problem is that none of them know who is behind these attempts on Molly. Ramsey and Molly's father both have enough enemies to provide lots of possibilities. Ramsey asks his friend Dillon Savich for some help and she shows up with his new wife Sherlock. The story had lots of twists and turns and was filled with action. I liked that Ramsey and Molly fell in love despite all the other things going on around them. Emma was a real sweetheart and I enjoyed reading about her. Sharon Williams did a great job with the voices and with the pacing of the story.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5A good suspense story with a very intense beginning. The plot got complex but didn't make much progress in solving the main problem. The little romance it had was rather abrupt. Judge Ramsey rescues a little girl who has been badly beaten then he is discovered by her mother Molly.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5one of her early ones- too much left over from the romance writing with the heroine getting nailed every few pages--story lineis good though- just needs tightening up
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Federal Judge Ramsey Hunt needed time away, his time in a cabin in the Rockie Mountains was anything but relaxing. After finding a little girl in the woods that had obviously been abused, men show up shooting at them and then the childs mom finally shows up accusing him of kidnapping. Molly Santera had been all over Colorado looking for her precious Emma and after finding her safe with Judge Hunt, the nightmares begin. This was not much in the way of a romance, it was very easy to fall for the little girl who had been through so much. The action of the book was spaced out, nothing real exciting, just a basic crime thriller. A few unexpected twists in the plot, but mostly very predictale. Happy ending, I would be interested in seeing the Judge in a later book. Overall just a basic read to get your mind of normal everyday boredom, and make yourself feel lucky you don't have a 'godfather' in the family.
