After a dominant season in 2017, Kris Winder returned to defend the Pre 74 championship on the super-quick Elsinore Honda but expectations were high from the threat of ‘young guns’ Chris Chell and Greg Speed, along with 2017 runner-up Keith Rice.

Pre 65 winner Tim Dallaway decided to take a break from the championship, leaving the field wide open. Liston and Lewis Bell from Scotland and twice runner-up Aaron Graves were likely contenders, with Will Bateup potentially strong, joining the series after winning a one-off championship at Mortimer in 2017.

The Pre 65/Pre74 championships are run over two combined races at each meeting, with the points separated for each championship. The weather and farming activity impacted on the shape of the championship.
