A case of visceral fat

A 40-year-old man presented to the clinic. He was moderately overweight but felt healthy, though not as energetic as he would have liked. Most of his weight was collected around his belly — so-called visceral fat. He came to the clinic as he had a family history of diabetes and wanted to ensure his long-term health. Visceral (abdominal) fat is a known risk factor for cardiovascular disease and metabolic syndrome, the precursor to type 2 diabetes.
