A GARDEN FOR GOURMENTS

“The garden fell into disuse after the war, but 25 years ago it changed ownership and was resurrected”

Barley Wood Walled Garden at Wrington, south of Bristol, is in a magnificent position, on the south-facing side of a hill with breathtaking views towards the Bristol Channel. I visited on a very stormy day, but I would say it’s a glorious spot to visit when the sun’s shining.

It was built as a traditional Victorian kitchen garden for Henry Herbert Wills and his family in 1901, when there would have been a staff of 12–15
