Egypt bans Al-Bawaba newspaper for second day

Egyptian authorities banned the distribution of Al-Bawaba newspaper and confiscated it on Monday and yesterday after it called for the interior minister to be ousted and for officials to be held accountable for the church bombings, the paper said in a statement.

The newspaper confirmed the decision to confiscate its printed copies on Monday and Tuesday after it called for “hitting with an iron hand the heads of terror and holding officials accountable for security failure.”

The statement also called for ousting the interior minister, considering him the most responsible official for the twin bombings that claimed the lives of about 45 Coptic Christians and wounded ten others.

The online statement included a picture for the confiscated volume and called on the readers to read the news in this volume online.

Head of the ministerial council of the newspaper Abdel-Rahim Ali wandered: “Why did criticising a minister cause a ban on the newspaper?”

Meanwhile, the Arabic Network for Human Rights Information said that the ban on the printed copy of the newspaper for two days reveals the security service’s grip on the media. It added that this disrespects the Constitution and violates the law.
